Keep your waterways in fantastic working order by ensuring they are silt-free. Desilting your drains and sewers can help maintain them and stop blockages from building up.
Silt is comprised of substances such as gravel, sand, dirt etc., also known as settled deposits. If these unwanted materials enter the drainage system and are allowed to build up, they can cause serious problems. In addition, if sludge and excess debris are allowed to accumulate with silt in the drainage system, there’s a risk it will harden along the bottom of drains, restricting water flow.
Before it was used to describe unwanted materials in drainage systems, silt was a term used to describe the unwanted sediment found in the bottom of rivers and lakes. Originally used to describe excess substances such as fine sand, quartz or clay – silt can build up in many different places. On shorelines, silt can build up in harbours and along waterways; however, it can also build up in drainage systems and sewers all over the country.
There are a few core symptoms to look out for with your drainage network that indicate your drains need to be attended to. If your drains or sewers are experiencing any of the following, then it is worth having them looked at. Even if it is not due to the build-up of silt, it could be another substance blocking the system, including:
- Unpleasant or unusual odours coming from your drains
- Slow drainage of sinks, baths, toilets, or water from roadways
- Rising water levels in toilets
- Blockages within your drainage system or water not draining
- Odd noises emanating from plugholes or manholes
At Green Deal Drains, we are proud to say that if you are experiencing issues with your drains, gullies, or sewer system, we can help. Our engineers use state of the art equipment to diagnose the issue and find a solution to the problem. By utilising CCTV drain surveys, high-pressure water jetting, and other drain cleaning techniques, we can desilt your drain or gutter and get your water flowing again in no time.
One of the best desilting methods we use is drain jetting. Drain jetting uses water placed under high pressure to flush out a system. It can dislodge silt, blockages, and affluent – leaving your drain or sewer clean again.
